Description

Dated 1777 and 1778. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay house much
altered for shop use. Gable end to street with 3-bay shopfront
and 2 windows 1st floor. Coursed rubble gable with polished
ashlar dressings; rubble elsewhere. Raised and moulded
margins to gable 1st floor windows and to blocked centre
door, all with fluted keystones; 2-pane glazing. Crowsteps
to S gable, coped end stack to N gable with date stone;
elaborate skewputts with carved nautilus shell detailing;
slate roof; unfortunate large box dormer.

Datestone with egg and dart border; 1778 John Young, Margaret

Elder. Nautilus shell decoration peculiar to Forres, Rafford

and Findhorn in later 18th and early 19th centuries.
