Description

Pair of later 19th century ornamental Scots Baronial lodges, gatepiers and iron gates at the main entrance to Cally House, now Cally Palace Hotel (see separate item, Girthon Parish).

LODGES: asymmetrical pair of lodges, that to E with full-height turret feature, that to W with canted bay window to ground with facetted roof. Both single storey and attic L-plan. Hammer-dresed coursed rubble masonry with bull-faced granite quoins and margins. Steep crowstepped gables with granite finials. Both have lean-to crowstepped porches in re-entrant angles with pointed-arch moulded doorways. All windows single light with sash and case plate-glass 2-pane glazing. Slate roofs, tall axial stacks.

GATES AND GATEPIERS: 4 tall ashlar gatepiers with swept pyramidal aps and ball finials. Ornamental cast- and wrought-iron gates.
