Description

Circa 1870. Single span depressed arch bridge high over
River Kelvin. Stugged ashlar, polished ashlar voussoirs
and parapet; bull-faced lower work at approach walls,
abutments and retaining walls. Tall piers, chamfered at
angles with quatrefoil medallion at spandrel level;
channelled arch ring; bull-faced ashlar soffits.
Corbell-table supports traceried parapet with terminal
and central die piers, latter with cornice apparently
checked back on inside face. Coped ashlar parapet to
approach walls. Original subsidiary span to N. over
Gariochmill Road now replaced with plain flat concrete
structure, modern parapet. Springers to original arched
structure remain.
