Description

Charles Wilson, architect; 1853-4. Monumental stairway
of grey granite, in 3 stages; linking Woodlands Terrace
and Park Gardens. Massive square piers at each stage;
lower part bull-faced with polished granite plinth
above; square coping stone. Bull-faced retaining wall
supporting balustrade with lesser intermediate die-
pedestals with cast-iron lamp brackets.

Completed in 1854 at a cost of $10,000.
