Description

F Burnet and Boston, architects; 1900. Symmetrical Edwardian baroque terrace of tenements; 4 storeys and attics with shops at ground. 5-bay flank to Baliol Street. Polished red ashlar. 2 centre bays with canted windows rising through 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors, flanked by pilasters rising from 2nd floor to support shaped gables with bipartite attic windows. Terminal bays have tourelles at angles rising from 1st to attic floors with conical (right) or hexagonal (left) roofs and lead

spike finials. Aedicule features at 2nd floor canted windows. Otherwise, single light or bipartite windows, some with pediments. Sash windows; plate glass glazing. Heavy string course over ground floor; plain main cornice; roof balustrade. Various dormer shapes; tall wallhead and axial stacks; steeply pitched slate roofs.

Irregular 5-bay flank to 4-8 Baliol Street with canted window to right. Ground floor supported on cast-iron columns with decorated capitals.
