Description

Circa 1865-80 3-storey late Georgian-style tenements. Cream sandstone ashlar. Base course, channelled at ground floor, cill course to 1st floor and 2nd floor, architraves to 2nd and 3rd floor windows, cornices to 1st floor windows, deep eaves cornice.

169-193 ALLISON STREET: 25 bays, with blind windows to 1st and 2nd floors at bays 4, 19, 21 and 25. Shops at ground floor to 169-177 and 191-193.

182-220 LANGSIDE ROAD ELEVATION: 45 bays, stepped at roofline. 2 storeys at No 182. Blind windows to 1st and 2nd floors at bay 23.

A few original 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, remainder replaced in a variety of styles. Concrete tile roof in place of slate. Entrance doors architraved and corniced to Langside Road. Canted dormers to Langside Road. Altered stacks. Replacement doors.

Statement of Interest

A characteristic row of Govanhill tenements, testament to the rapid expansion of the city in the late 19th century. Category changed from B to C(S) on 4 November 2003.
