Description

Thomas Smellie of Kilmarnock, architect; circa 1902. Terrace
of 2-storey villas of similar detail.
Nos 4-8 forming 6-bay symmetrically arranged pairs. Nos 2 and
No 11 Bellshaugh Road form similar pair, obliquely joining
rest of terrace. No 10 3-bay with canted windows flanking
doorpiece. Each house 3-bay; 2-storeys and basement. Rock
faced ashlar with polished basement, dressings and margins.
Roll-moulded reveals to windows over ground. Sash windows,
lower sashes plate glass, upper sashes with small panes.
Continuous cill band at 1st; mutule cornice, slate roofs,
tall axial stacks.
Nos 2-4; steps oversailing basement to doorpiece with single
sidelight, both with lugged roll-moulded architraves and
shared cornice. Flanking doors, full-height canted windows,
with parapet breaking through eaves; otherwise mainly
bipartite windows.
Nos 6-8, similarly detailed except doorpieces, both centrally
placed with polished jambs and lugged inner architrave.
Consoled cornice with pierced ashlar parapet; otherwise
details as above.
No 10; doorpiece with composite columns supporting open
segmental pediment with keystone. Flanking door, full-height
canted windows as above.
Flank to No 10, coursed rock-faced ashlar. Flank to 11
Bellshaugh Road, see 2 Mirrlees Drive.
Rear elevations; bull-faced red ashlar with polished margins.
To rear of houses, 2-storey service wings with piended roofs.
Terrace with low ashlar wall with ashlar gatepiers.

Statement of Interest

Part of Kirklee Road B group. Similar to 2 Mirrlees Drive.
