Description

J C McKellar, architect, 1904-5. 20-bay terrace of similarly
detailed asymmetrical houses. Nos 30-40 3-bay. No 28, 2-bay
with stepped back porch to E flank. 2 storeys, attic and
basement, polished stonecleaned ashlar. Windows with stone
mullions and/or transoms. Nos 30-38: steps to centrally
placed doorway with single sidelight in lugged architrave,
surmounted by segmental hood supported on corbels. To one
side of door (flanking at No 34) full-height canted window
with embattled parapet breaking eaves line. Above door, large
bipartite stair light with leaded glazing. Remaining windows
tripartite. Sash windows, plate glass glazing, some upper
sashes leaded. Deeply overhanging timber bracketted eaves.
Slate roofs, variety of dormer shapes, corniced axial stacks.
No 28; 2-bay elevation to Cleveden Drive detailed as above.
Polished ashlar E flank with balustraded steps to porch, door
detailed as main terrace. No 40; wide 3-bay facade, steps to
doorway with carved spandrel. Canted window to left of door,
tripartite to right. Corbelled tourelle to W angle with
pilastered windows and bell-cast finialed roof. All windows
with multi-pane glazing.
Stugged ashlar flank to W with 2 polished ashlar stacks
rising from brackets at 1st and breaking through gable line.
Terrace with coped stugged ashlar boundary walls and square
corniced ashlar gatepiers (2 pairs to No 40).
