Description

John Short (Adam and Short), 1898. Large range (occupying half city block) of monumental 4-storey tenements of four, five and six apartment houses. Thomsonesque detailing of pseudo-isodomic (banded) masonry and pilaster-mullioned windows. Grey sandstone. Polished ashlar. Ground floor cornice; continuous cill band to first, second, and third floors. Boldly-projecting massive regular full-height circular and square window bays. First and second floor pilaster-mullioned windows to bays; pilastraded windows to main wall. Sash and case windows, where original. Some wallhead and axial stacks, many reduced in height or altered.

Statement of Interest

Virtually identical to 33-35 Saltoun Street and 20-26 Roxburgh Street (item ). Built for William Murgatroyd (as Saltoun Street).
