Description

D Woodburn Sturrock, architect; 1899. Asymmetrical pair of
mirrored 3-bay houses. 2 storeys, attics and basement.
Polished red ashlar.
Terminal bays with 4-light bow windows rising to full-height
from basement. Steps oversailing basement to recessed
double-leaf panelled doors with leaded glazed fanlight.
Vestibule doors with leaded glass panel and fanlight. To
inner bays; paired 3-light projecting square windows to
ground floor with slated roofs. Brattishing forms plant box
to bipartite windows above. Over doors, bipartite window with
bracketted cill. Sash windows, plate glass glazing. Band
course over ground floor, overhanging eaves supported on
timber modillions. Skews at party wall and gable of No 1.
Steep piended slate and platform roofs with red tile
cresting. Axial stacks, octagonal flues.
Conical roof over bow window at No 1. No 3 with bipartite
dormers and 3-light bow dormer with conical roof.
Irregular bull-faced ashlar flank to W. Stugged ashlar rear
elevation.
Flank to E adjoins No 5 Kingsborough Gardens: polished red
ashlar, 2-bay with corbelled canted oriel to left at 1st
floor; upper sashes with good leaded glass.
Coped ashlar wall to basement and steps supporting cast-iron
railings at steps with intermediate square ashlar piers.
