Description

David Barclay of H & D Barclay, architects; 1899. 4-bay
symmetrical double-villa. Droved ashlar with polished long
and short work margins and quoins.
Advanced gabled end bays with 2-storey, 5-light mullioned bow
windows, with semi-conical roof set in to gable wall. Steps
oversailing basement to centrally placed doorways with
dwarf-arcaded fanlight and flanked by small pilastered and
pedimented sidelights, double leaf panelled doors. Above
doors tripartite windows; sash windows plate glass glazing;
sidelights and fanlights with good leaded coloured glass.
Continuous moulded band courses over ground. Wooden modillion
eaves; barge boarding at gables. Centrally placed corniced
axial stack with octagonal cans; skew at party wall with
scroll skew-putt. Steeply pitched slate roofs with tiled
ridge. Pierced painted ashlar balustrade to steps.
Flanks: stugged ashlar with polished ashlar quoins.
Off-centre canted oriel rises from corbels at ground through
2 storeys. Rear elevation stugged ashlar. Mostly bipartite
windows. Canted corniced 6-light oriel at 1st floor to right.
Small projecting lean-to porches to both outer bays.
