Description

Originally circa 1830, 4-storey 6-bay commercial building,
raised to 5-storey and attic, circa 1880, and alterations to
ground floor and central pair of 1st floor bays, circa
1950. Ashlar, with stone facing at ground and painted
masonry sides.
BUCHANAN STREET ELEVATION: 6-bay. Architraved windows,
1st floor pedimented, 2nd corniced, 3rd with corbelled
cills. 3 tripartite windows in later 4th floor, with
pilaster jambs and panelled pilaster flanking each pair of
bays, above original main cornice and with lighter
moulded cornice at eaves. Cast-iron parapet flanking
segmental-headed tripartite dormer to centre bay,
pedimented dies; French pavilion roof at centre.
N SIDE ELEVATION: 8-bays; 2-4-2, painted from 3rd bay E.
4 centre windows plain, those of flanking advanced bays
detailed as Buchanan Street elevation, some blind; 5th
floor with 7 windows at centre, flanked by 2 to advanced
end bays.
Sash and case windows with margin glazing to lower
sashes; similar margin glazing pattern to casement
windows of 5th floor. Slated pitch and platform roof.
