Description

Robert Foote, circa 1835. Severe classical, 3-storey
commercial building with 4th storey added mid 19th
century. Cream ashlar sandstone. Modern shop fronts
at ground, with dividing cornice above.
BUCHANAN STREET ELEVATION: 11-bay, with centre 3
advanced; plain architraves to windows at 1st and 2nd
floor; entablature and cornice above; 3rd floor arranged
1-4-4-4-1, in Thomsonesque manner, with central block
pediment flanked by chimneys.
EXCHANGE PLACE ELEVATION: 11-bay; similarly detailed, with
3rd floor windows in 1-3-1-5-1-3 formation, again with
block pediment between wallhead chimneys.
NO 11 (ROGANOS): Weddell and Inglis, 1935, Art Deco
frontage at ground, with vitrolite fascia, recently
restored by Weddell and Thomson. No 9 is a corner
block with return elevation to Royal Exchange Square.
Plate-glass glazing pattern to sash and case windows;
casements at 3rd floor.

Statement of Interest

Interior of No 9 Exchange Place, also by Weddell

and Inglis, has recently also been restored in its Art Deco

form by Weddell and Thomson.
