Description

F Burnet and Boston, 1903. 4-storey and attic tenement
block with modern shops at ground floor. 5 x 9 x 2 main
bays with bowed corner sections at NE and NW. Polished
ashlar. Sash and case windows with glazing bars in
upper panes, some altered. Shallow canted bays in 2nd,
3rd, 5th, 6th bays from E in main elevation, 2nd 3rd and
5th bays from N in E return to Lime Street. Ground
floor cornice. 3rd floor cill band.
ELEVATION TO DUMBARTON ROAD: bold NW and NE corner
turrets, each with bracketted balustraded balcony at 4th
floor, pepper-pot roofs with finials, attached wallhead
stacks. Moulded segmental pediment above central window
in tripartite bays to 1st floor, 2-light windows and
narrow windows with sculpted pediments at 2nd floor.
Balustraded parapet. Gable to tripartite dormers in 2nd
and 6th bays with balcony in front, 3rd and 5th bays
canted full-height with set-back roofs. Further set back
dormers.
E ELEVATION TO LIME STREET: continued arrangement of main
elevation with full-height canted bay rising to attic in 3rd
bay and gabled dormer (without balcony) in 5th bay.
Wallhead stacks attached to 3rd and 5th bays.
Elevation to Merkland Street: as main elevation with plain
5th storey replacing attic. Slate roofs.
