Description

Horatio K Bromhead, completed 1903. Free classical
warehouse. 6-storeys and canted angle turret. Modern
shops at ground. 13 x 5 bays and single corner bay.
Polished ashlar. Sash and case windows, some altered
to T-pane casements on cill band, graduated recessed
architraves.
Giant order of Corinthian pilasters and semi-engaged
columns rising from 1st to 2nd floors and repeated
above at 3rd and 4th floors, sculpted panels between
floors. modillion cornice at 3rd and 5th floors;
continuous balustrade with panelled, corniced piers.
Corner section: canted bays, balcony at 1st floor,
independent circular balconies at 2nd stylised Venetian
windows with oculi above at 4th and 5th floors;
polygonal turret with balconies, consoled cornice,
balustrade, columned roof lantern.
ELEVATION TO ARGYLE STREET: bays arranged 3-1-3-1-3,
3-bay sections breaking forward; central doorway with
stooping Atlantes carrying curving 1st floor balcony;
independent balconies in 3-bay section of 2nd floor
above; pedimented with stepped balustrade and Venetians
as corner section at 4th and 5th floors.
ELEVATION TO BUCHANAN STREET: N 3-bay section as
outer bays to Argyle Street.
