Description

Circa 1854. 4-storey tenement with modern shops, traces of
original shop fronts, 26 bays to Argyle Street, 4 unequal
return bays. Polished ashlar. Sash and case windows (some
altered to casement) mainly in architraves. 10th and 17th
bays from E and 1st bay from S on return blind. Eaves cornice;
parapet. Axial stacks, rebuilt.
ELEVATION TO ARGYLE STREET: 3-17-3 bays; outer bays advanced;
1st, 3rd, 21st and 23rd bays tripartite windows with stone
mullions, consoled and corniced with ramped lugged architraves
at 1st floor, repeated at 2nd floor without consoles. Central
bays, corniced at 1st floor, lugged architraves at 1st and
2nd floor; recessed margins at 3rd floor. 1st, 2nd and 3rd
floor cill bands.
ELEVATION TO KELVINGROVE STREET: recessed pilastered close
entry. 1st bay from S blind. 1st and 2nd floor cill band,
windows corniced, wallhead stack. Some later dormers.

Statement of Interest

Former Sandyford Buildings. No 1070 is an industrial building

to the rear of the tenement and not included in the listing.
