Description

Charles Wilson, 1857. 3 storey, Italianate tenement thematically linked to adjacent Queen's Rooms. (First Church of Christ Scientist). 8 main bays stepped down slope and arranged in 2-bay house sections. Single return bay to W. Ashlar. Coupled pilaster doorpieces at head of flight of stone steps, framing recessed entrances with fanlights and sidelights. Canted 1st and 4th bays from E, projecting square tripartite corniced bays in 5th and 8th. Semi-circular sculpted shell or floral panels with flanking paternae above main openings on ground and 1st floor. All windows sash and case in architraves. Basement band course; chamfered podia at ground floor; 1st and 2nd floor moulded cill bands. Eaves modillion cornice, parapet. Western return bay repeating main elevation window arrangement. Axial and gable stacks. Slate roof.
