Description

Circa 1840. Remnants of formerly symmetrical classical
terrace block. 3 storeys and basement, 9 bays, 3 eastern
bays raised and advanced. Ashlar, rusticated at basement with
voussoired lintels and outer windows. Each entry at head
of steps oversailing basement area; No 232: piers at foot of
steps, pilastered doorpiece, consoled fanlight; No 234
architraved, corniced entrance. Sash and case windows in
architraves. Some 12-pane glazing: ground floor architraves
dropped to ground level band course, continuous cill band
broken by architraves, panelled friezes. 1st floor windows
on cill band, corniced. 1/3 height string course; 1st floor
cornice. Eaves cornice blocking course Cast-iron balconies
to set-back houses at 1st floor, houses now united.
ELEVATION TO BLYTHSWOOD STREET: 4 bays with lower 6-bay
later section; 2nd bay from S blind also 4th bay at 1st and
2nd floor; central 2 bays slightly advanced; main elevation
details continue. 2-bay central, corniced wallhead stack.
LATER NORTHERN SECTION: 2-storeys, 1st storey canted inwards
towards rear elevation of main block; tripartite mullioned
windows; pedimented gable.
INTERIOR: includes Ionic columns hall screens. No 234,
cast-iron stair balusters.
