Description

James Sellars (Campbell Douglas and Sellars), 1882-4. Scots
Renaissance dispensary building. 1-storey and attic with
2-storey central section and tower. Snecked rubble.
Continuous basement band course. All windows sash and case,
mainly 8-pane glazing. 2-storey polygonal tower set in
re-entrant angle of double gabled blocks; ground floor
moulded cill band; 3 windows, repeated above with central
window replaced by commemorative plaque in columned niche.
Eaves cornice. Blocking course. Candle-snuffer, slated roof
with lucarnes. Single bay entrance section; pilastered,
recessed entry; fanlight with semi-circular Gibbs surround.
2 slim round-headed, leaded lights with stone transomes
flanked by sculpted relief panels. Gable with sculpted panel
and ball finial. Lower 3-bay section with symmetrical windows
on ground floor; sculpted frieze marked 'Sick Children's
Dispensary' and 3 pedimented attic dormers. Gable finial.
Slate roof.
