Description

Dated 1900. Built as home for the aged, the poor and for destitute children, in grounds of Maryland House. 2 storeys and attic, long near-symmetrical front set back from street, 2-window bays separated by buttresses, 3 wall-head gables, mansard roof with swept-roofed dormers, central entrance with sculptured figure over; sash windows, segmental-arched at ground; flanking recessed square bays, that to right with narrow gable, low link at W to 1922 chapel; latter has chancel rose window facing street, paired lancets to flanks. All built of stone-cleaned bull-faced red ahslar; slate roofs. Boundary wall with wrought-iron railings linking stone piers.
