Description

Circa 1900. 2-storey subdivided villa with corner tower. Cream

sandstone, squared and snecked bull-faced rubble with polished dressings, coursed rubble to rear and side. Base course; moulded cill course to 1st floor of principal elevations; overhanging bracketted eaves with dentilled cornice; stacks with moulded coping.

NW (FRONT) ELEVATION: bay to left of centre with roll-moulded round-arched keystoned doorway, 2-leaf panelled door and plate glass fanlight, Corinthian columned doorpiece with heavy fluted corbels above carrying balcony to 1st floor window with parapet of pierced quatrefoils. 2-storey canted window with chamfered reveals to outer left, finialled piend roof. Windows to right of centre. 2-storey quadripartite bowed corner tower to outer right, conical roof with elaborate iron finial.

SW (BINNIE STREET) ELEVATION: 3-bay with secondary doorway; regular fenestration and wallhead stack over blank bay to left.

NE ELEVATION: 3-bay; regular fenestration to left bays; 2 wallhead stacks.

SE (REAR) ELEVATION: M-piended roof, wallhead stack to left; modern forestair to secondary entrance at 1st floor; irregular windows; later single storey extension to right.

Some timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing, mostly replacement windows. Green slate roof, metal flashings and red ridge tiles and finials; 4 wallhead stacks (see above). Moulded eaves gutters.

INTERIOR: not seen 1993.

BOUNDARY WALLS, RAILINGS AND GATEPIERS: low rubble wall with saddleback coping, growing taller in Binnie Street with semi-circular coping, panelled gatepiers with semi-circular pedimented caps to Barrhill Road. Decorative railings obscured by hedge.
