John Honeyman, dated 1876, additions 1893. 2-storey U-plan single and 2-storey school built on slope with plain gothic details. Pink sandstone, coursed and squared rubble with droved and polished ashlar dressings. Base course; chamfered reveals; ashlar mullions and transoms; coped skews; roll-detail to skewputts.
SW (FRONT) ELEVATION: 5-bay, single storey, with 4-pointed-arched doorway to centre, small bipartite window above breaking eaves in tall gablehead with hoodmoulded dated roundel. Bipartite windows to each of flanking bays.
NW (JOHN STREET) ELEVATION: 6-bay with 3 bays to left stepped down. Broad gabled bay to outer right with stepped tripartite lancet windows and blind roundel to gablehead; bipartite windows to bays to right of centre; secondary doorway to left of centre; flanking bay with bipartite transomed window breaking eaves in finialled gable; bipartite window to outer left.
SE ELEVATION: broad advanced gabled wing to outer right with apex stack and stepped tripartite lancet windows; bipartite windows and secondary doorway on return. Main block with gabled bay detailed as above to outer left with small flat-roofed entrance porch; segmental-arched openings at ground floor to centre bays; windows above.
NE (REAR) ELEVATION: courtyard of U-plan with irregular windows and small single storey porches and additions. Small pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof. Moulded eaves gutter and gutterheads.
INTERIOR: not seen 1993.
BOUNDARY WALLS AND RAILINGS: low rubble walls, 3 gatepiers with pyramidal coping, some hoop railings.
