Description

Inscribed stone, "Hamilton central Co-operative/1898"
but unlikely to be all one build. Large, mainly 3-storey
gushet block. Renaissance. Red ashlar, with mainly
single or bipartite windows (sashes), modern shops at
ground. North-facing shaped-gabled narrow gushet bay
with pair turrets corbelled above ground, these carried
above eaves and with conical roofs. Long elevation to
Gateside Street arranged as several blocks with varied
roof-line and end stacks; 3-bay range nearest south
has outer 1st floor oriels, long range alongside has
continous series of panels between upper floors, its 3
southmost bays carried a storey higher with finialed
steep roof; remainder of block has either pediment or
cornice over most windows (mainly small-paned upper
sashes) some shaped wall-head gables; wall-head
balustrade nearest gushet. Slated roofs.
