Alexander Cullen, 1903. 3-storey commercial building on corner site with Castle Street, extending to 2-storey and attic, and 3-storey buildings in Keith Street. Free classical details. Cream ashlar, slate roofs.
Main corner building; corniced frieze at 1st floor with cartouche corbels, moulded cill course at 1st and 2nd floor, corniced and finialled wallhead, aediculed pediment to Castle Street and pediment with oculus to Keith Street; large keystoned and moulded round-headed windows to ground floor, corniced bipartites to upper floors with sash and case frames, plate glass to bottom, 9-pane to top, pilastrade to upper floors; rounded angle tower with finialled conical roof. Subsidiary Keith Street buildings: corniced ground floor, moulded cill course to 1st floor, moulded wallhead course; single and bipartite windows, sash and case frames, plate glass to bottom and 6-pane to top at 1st floor, plate glass to top floor; rounded angle tower.
CASTLE STREET ELEVATION: 2 windows of different sizes to ground floor, 3 bipartites to upper floors.
KEITH STREET ELEVATION: door to rounded angle at left with round-headed bracketted hood flanked by sidelights, corbelling to upper floors, 3 windows to 1st and 2nd floors with mannered lintels, aediculed pediment with wreathed portrait relief to 2nd floor; 3 windows to ground floor right, bipartite to upper floors, tall corniced stack to left corbelled from 1st floor; further irregular bays to far right with corniced door, keystoned oculus and various other windows. Subsidiary buildings to righ t: 2-storey and attic building to left, door and 3 windows to ground floor, 3 windows to 1st, bipartite to pedimented centre bay at attic flanked by segmental dormer windows in mansard; 3-storey building to right, door and 2 large windows to ground floor, 2 windows to upper floors, tall corniced stack corbelled from 1st floor, rounded angle to f ar right with door and window to ground floor, 4 windows to upper floors; similar treatment to right return elevation.
INTERIOR: not seen.
Keith Street was constructed in about 1894.
