Description

Late 19th century. 2-storey 3-bay tenement with former coach works (?) at ground, on corner site, with basement and attic, ground falling to SE. Snecked, bull-faced cream sandstone with ashlar long and short dressings; chamfered arrises. Attic windows breaking eaves with gabled dormerheads.

SW (EXCHANGE STREET) ELEVATION: deep-set board door and rectangular 2-pane fanlight at right; wide full-height segmental-arched window at centre, divided by timber transom into 2 tripartite windows; to left, full-height single window divided by stone transom. 3 single windows to 1st and 2nd floors. Chamfered angle corbelled to square at 1st floor.

NW (FRIARSGATE) ELEVATION: bay to outer left with single windows to each floor. Broad blank gable to right; gablehead stack removed.

Timber 4-pane sash and case single windows, replaced by 2-pane swing plate glass windows at 2nd floor. Fixed and sash and case timber

windows at ground to Exchange Street.

Flat ashlar skews, coped ashlar stack to rear gable. Grey slates

Statement of Interest

Prominent position as termination of N side of Exchange Street (see separate listings for Nos 1-15 Exchange Street). An extra floor has been inserted into the workshops at ground.
