Description

Late 18th century incorporating earlier fabric; later alterations. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay rectangular-plan symmetrical house with stop-chamfered NW angle. Harled.

N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: part-glazed boarded door with letterbox fanlight at ground in bay to centre; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in each bay flanking.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: window at each floor in bay bay, (irregularly disposed).

W (SIDE) ELEVATION: window at each floor, offset to right of centre; small attic window to right of gable; multi-flue gablehead stack above.

E (SIDE) ELEVATION; abutting Number 3 Bridge Street.

Predominantly 4-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof with purple slate at ridge; stone ridge; harled, corniced gablehead stack to W; uPVC rainwater goods.

Statement of Interest

Bridge Street is one of the oldest parts of Kirkwall, and marks the original shore of the Oyce. It provided initial access to the town from the harbour, the east pier at the end of the street having been completed in 1811.
