Description

17th century with later alterations. 2-storey and attic, rectangular-plan house (converted as shop at ground) with single bay crowstepped gable to street, built on junction of Albert Street and Laing Street on ground rising to NE. Re-harled at ground to Albert Street; harl-pointed to NW; cement-rendered and lined to remainder. Base course; band course between ground and 1st floors; plain cement margins to some windows to Laing Street elevation.

SW (ALBERT STREET) ELEVATION: large shop window with modern glazed door to left spanning ground floor; modern fascia above; window set to left at 1st floor; attic window above; gablehead stack.

SE (LAING STREET) ELEVATION: irregular, 4-bay. Crowstepped wallhead stack to centre. Window at 1st floor in bay to left of centre. Large shop window at ground in bay to outer left; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in bays to right of centre.

NW (SIDE) ELEVATION: irregularly fenestrated. Window to 1st floor in bay to centre. Boarded door at ground with window at 1st floor in bay to outer right. Shop window at ground in bay to outer right.

Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; stone ridge; cement-rendered and lined, corniced wallhead stack to SE; similar gablehead stacks to SW and NE; both uPVC and cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: converted to shop at ground; unseen above, 1998.

Statement of Interest

Sited with its gabled end to the main street, in the traditional manner, and surviving relatively intact in form, this property stands on the junction with Laing Street. Features of interest to note include the tall, shouldered wallhead stack and the intact crowstepped gables.
