Description

Dated 1876. Asymmetrical Italianate villa; 2 storeys, square-

plan, with lower 2-storey 2-bay wing to east. Snecked stugged

ashlar with polished dressings. South elevation 3 bays.

Central door, approached by steps, projecting porch supported

by 2 square piers. Bold mutule cornice and decorative cast-iron balustrade over porch and also over projecting ground floor

bipartite in advanced gabled left bay. 1st floor with round-

headed glazed balcony door above porch. Architraved window in

right bay below bracketed projecting bipartite; 1st floor

tripartite in left bay. Lights in outer bays divided by

colonettes, round-headed and with channelled voussoirs.

Decorative gable heads and deeply projecting eaves. West

elevation almost identical, minus doorway, canted ground

floor window in right bay below bipartite with relieving

arch above. Sash windows, mostly with pilastered jambs.

South elevation of 2-bay wing to east has pilastered and

corniced doorcase; simplified window details; End and axial

stacks and slate roofs.

Interior: some panelling and decorative plaster work,

especially in entrance hall and stairs.

Statement of Interest

The stable block was demolished in December 2010.
