Description

Early 17th century; restored 1958. 3-storey, 2-bay traditional gable-fronted tenement with pend and shop at ground, crowstepped and chimneyed gable. Cream Pardovan sandstone coursed rubble with ashlar dressings to N elevation. Chamfrered reveals.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 3-bay at ground, central door, with pend to right and window to left; regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floor, panel with flight holes to pigeon loft in attic. Enclosed forestair with segmental-arched entrance and red pantiled roof to outer right.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: 2-storey wing. 16th century bread oven in garden.

12-pane sash and case windows. T-plan roof,red pantiles.

Statement of Interest

A group with adjoining No 44. The tenement is called Hamiltons' Land (with No 44) after the Hamiltons of Pardovan and Humbie who built them. Restored by the National Trust of Scotland as part of their Little Houses Scheme.
