Description

Campbell Douglas and Sellars, 1886, with later 19th century
addition. 2 storey asymmetrical plan and elevations. Snecked,
squared rubble with polished ashlar dressings. Entrance
front: projecting arcaded portico with half-fluted engaged
columns and pilasters, glazed to side with inscription in
frieze, scrolled pediment enclosing aedicule. Gable to east
and large octagonal bay attached to west angle with
alternating pediments to ground floor windows, round heads to
1st, oculi inserted into parapet, dome and arcaded cupola.
Large mullioned and transomed blocked window in west gable.
East elevation broad 3-window advanced gable wih scroll
skewputts. 2 additional paired round-arched windows in 1st
floor. 1 stair window. Slated roofs with ventilators.

Bequest left 1890 by William Proudfoot of Craigieburn to

Institute for working men.
