Description

Early 19th century, 3-bay 3-storey and attic hotel with later rear wing. Random rubble; ashlar dressings, rendered at N and S. Painted margins, raised cills, base, band and eaves course.

N (STREET) ELEVATION: J W Hardie 1896 pilastered pub front; central pedimented doorway and additional doorway to E. Panelled doors. Painted fascia and moulded cornice. 3 windows 1st and 2nd floors.

2 slate-hung dormers.

S ELEVATION: central projecting stairblock with piend roof; flanking dormers. Flat-roofed extensions.

Plate glass glazing to sash and case windows. Slated roof; plain skews; gable stacks.

INTERIOR: Edwardian bar fronts in public bar.

Statement of Interest

E and W gables abutted to 1st floor height by adjoining High Street buildings. Hotel raised to 3-storey in 19th century. Plans for addition of Dining Room, 1932, 1936. Plans for conversion to flats 1988.
