Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey and attic run of 3-bay shop tenements, conceived as a terrace. Rubble, squared to front, ashlar margins, base band and eaves courses. Rendered at ground.

N (STREET) ELEVATIONS: irregular variety of shop fronts in similar style with chamfered arrises and mitred stops. Some symmetrical 3-bay fronts with further doorways to side, considerably altered at No 71. Some deeply panelled doors. Fanlights. Outer angles chamfered, corbelled to square at 1st floor to left, and above 1st floor angle window to right. 1st floor windows irregularly spaced, consistently detailed. Slate-hung dormers, some gabled bipartites, some canted.

E GABLE: single shop window, detailed as front.

W GABLE: blank with small 1st floor light.

S (REAR) ELEVATIONS: irregular variety of gabled projections and additions. Gable of 2 Law Road (listed separately) abutting number 59 and presently absorbed.

Variety of 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns to sash and case windows. Plain raised skews. Coped gable head stacks. Slate roofs.

Statement of Interest

Number 73 makes a glaring exception to semi-regular terrace line.
