Description

Late 18th century range of single storey farm cottages made into symmetrical U-plan by addition of wings in later 19th century. Squared and snecked rubble with stugged, contrasting ashlar dressings.

S ELEVATION: advanced gabled pend entrance at centre with basket arched lintel. Flanked by 2 3-bay cottages to each side each with central door and flanking windows. Wings with 2 cottages, one set into angle.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: modern extension to left. Slightly advanced wing gables with single light and outer bipartite.

SIDE ELEVATIONS: 5-bay. Central window with outer windows more closely spaced.

Plate glass sash windows. Modern doors with upper glazed lights. Plain skews and gable head stacks. Pantile roofs.

Rubble boundary wall and low parapet by opening of forecourt.

Statement of Interest

Masonry colouring differs slightly in additions. Red rubble with grey dressings to original block, creamier rubble with red dressings to later. Sited near former limestone quarry to SE.
