Description

Circa 1885. Single storey and attic 3-bay L-plan suburban cottage. Whinstone with cream sandstone dressings. Long and short studded rock-faced quoins and margins; stop-chamfered arrises.

NE (MURRAY PLACE) ELEVATION: at centre, stop-roll-moulded shouldered ashlar doorcase with 2-leaf panelled door and fanlight to suit; swept-roofed canopy with decorative lead flashing and fish-scale slates, supported by pierced timber brackets with corbel stops. Flanked by bipartite windows with nailhead ornamented lintels. Pair of piend-roofed canted timber dormers with segmental-headed windows.

NW (MARCH STREET) ELEVATION: 2-bay gable to left with narrow windows at ground and blank panelled shield in gablehead. Single bay to right with window at ground and piend-roofed bipartite dormer.

SW ELEVATION: projecting gable to left with window to both floors; door in re-entrant angle to right.

SE ELEVATION: projecting blank gable to right.

Timber sash and case 6-pane windows. Grey slates; ashlar-coped skews; coped apex stacks with sandstone dressings; octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: inner lobby door with etched glass panel.

BOUNDARY WALLS: low rubble walls with saddleback ashlar coping.

Statement of Interest

The house is in extremely good condition and apparently unaltered. It stands within a large and prominent corner site.
