Description

Dated 1879. 2-storey corner building; 2-bay projecting E section; single bay W section. Coursed rubble; painted E wing; ashlar dressings. Base course; 1st floor fascia.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: entrance door in left bay of E wing; 4-pane fanlight; flanking door now unused; single window in right bay; bipartite above; carved datestone with owl to left. Bipartites at ground and 1st floor in west section.

W ELEVATION: single window at ground and 1st floor in left bay; garage extension to rear.

N ELEVATION: adjoining building.

E ELVATION: single window at ground and 1st floor in right bay.

Modern glazing. Grey slate roof; red slate diamond in centre of E section roof; straight skews; coped stack at E gablehead; short stack at E.

Statement of Interest

Probably built to replace the buildings that once stood on Covenanter Lane. 1-2 Bellstane, together with 3 and 4 Bellstane, forms a small square marking the site of the old market place.
