Description

James Thomson of Dumfries, architect. Built 1823-4. 2-storey
3-bay former manse with basement to garden (W). Painted
stugged ashlar and dressings. S elevation: inner bay slightly
advanced with doorway, door with semi-circular fanlight and
narrow sidelights, wide doorpiece on 2 elongated columns;
plate glass sashes. Set-off at base; continuous band between
floors; cornice; roof carried over low blocking course,
except above entrance bay; 2 symmetrically placed groups of
diamond flues: piended and platform roof with graded slates.
Low wings to rear.
Quadrangular walled garden to W adjoins house; rubble-built
ashlar-coped walls swept upwards towards N; gate on 3 walls;
E wall buttressed.
