Description

Circa 1800, with later additions. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay, traditional L-plan house in large garden. Coursed squared rubble with raised polished ashlar dressings; rendered gables; quoin strips.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 8-panelled timber door with 3-pane rectangular fanlight to centre bay at ground, windows in flanking bays and regular fenestration to 1st floor; slate-hung, polygonal-roofed, canted dormer windows over outer bays flanking small modern rooflight at centre.

E ELEVATION: gabled elevation with window to outer right at ground and 1st floors. Later, rendered lean-to addition to centre at ground adjoining lean-to conservatory extended to S.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: later, 2-storey, piended addition.

Predominantly 12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slates. Broad, coped, rendered gablehead stacks with cans. Ashlar-coped skews.

BOUNDARY WALLS, GATEPIERS, GATES AND STANDARD LAMP: incomplete, rubble boundary walls with brick and render cope. Square-section ashlar gatepiers with cornice and flat ashlar cope; later decorative cast-iron 2-leaf gates. Free-standing standard lamp between gates and house, with glass globe and decorative pyramidal metal cap.

Statement of Interest

Bath Lodge retains interest as a fine example of an early nineteenth century house, deceptively sizeable, and still in its large garden setting. It has some later additions but the overall appearance of the building has not been altered to its detriment.
