1749. Traditional: 2 storeys. Rubble, white-washed; slate
roof. Long low building, comprising a house and barn. At rear
of barn a 1 storey lean-to and an outside stair to upper
floor. Large central chimney. 2 doors in front are probably
the original entrances. Small windows with chamfered
margins - Interior has low ceilings; tongue-and-groove
lining; ledged and lined doors.
Domestic in part. Dr. Johnson and James Boswell stayed here
on the nights of 14th and 15th October 1773 during their
Hebrideen tour. It was then the home of Dr. Alexander Maclean
physician. Domestic part has been recently renovated.
(1-storey byres in yard may be contemporary with the house.
This was the original Erray House but the current property going by that name stands apart to the SE. It was built for Daniel
MackInnon of MackInnon.
