Description

Earlier 19th century with early 20th century alterations. Low, single storey, broad cottage; cement harled with ashlar margins, mullions and dressings; chamfered reveals; stop-chamfered arrises and quoins. Advanced boarded eaves.

SW (MAIN) ELEVATION: 3 bays symmetrically disposed; round-headed doorway at centre; tall stack directly above; slightly advanced flanking bays with tripartite windows.

NW ELEVATION: former coach house elevation; original openings infilled to accommodate 3 casement windows; broad coach door at centre with flanking doors.

INTERIOR: not seen 1993.

3-horizontal-pane fixed windows; 6-pane casement windows. Shallow pitched grey slate piended roof with lead flashings; tall coped wallhead stack, chamfered arrises; single octagonal can.

Statement of Interest

This building was the former coachmaster's and coach house to Portkil House. The former factor's house immediately to the S, now Portkil Cottage, is listed separately.
