Later 19th century. Single storey, long rectangular-plan station building; 11 bay to platform; 5-bay near-symmetrical main front; on falling ground to S. Stugged squared and snecked red sandstone, honey coloured sandstone margins and dressings. Round-headed windows. Base course, quoins, exposed rafters.
SW (PLATFORM) ELEVATION: 4-bay office at left end, disposed window, door (now blocked), pair of windows. Waiting area off-centre to right, narrow wooden door, blocked fanlight, large quadripartite glazing lighting waiting room to right. Round-headed window and door to outer right, similar dimensions, cill close to ground level.
NE ELEVATION: bays near-symmetrically disposed. Gabled porch advanced at centre, round-arched door, windows symmetrically disposed to right. Blank bay to left, bipartite rectangular window to outer left.
Grey slate roof, lead flashings. Tall, coped ridge stacks, single can at N end (modern); paired octagonal terracotta can at S end.
The railway was opened in 1858. The tracks and station have been upgraded.
