Description

Circa 1880 with later additions. 2-storey, 3-bay, L-plan house with chip-carved ornament. Cream sandstone polished ashlar to principal elevation; rubble to sides and rear. Base course; cornice. Non-traditional single storey modern extension to E.

E RANGE: S ELEVATION: pedimented gable wall; central, full-height, 4-light canted window; cill courses to ground and 1st floor; ground floor windows set in recessed panels with intricately carved floral pattern and dentils above glazing; central 1st floor window in recessed, segmental-arched panel with similar floral carving and dentils; carved cross above; strip quoins rising to carved scrolls and skewputt at dentilled eaves; cast-iron, decorative finial to roof. W ELEVATION: single window to 1st floor above porch. E ELEVATION: 3-bay; regular fenestration to both floors.

N RANGE: S ELEVATION: 2-bay; recessed tripartite doorway to right; panelled door; plate glass fanlight; square-plan porch (open to both S and W) at re-entrant angle supported by square-section columns with decorative parapet; single, round-arched window to 1st floor above; to left, bipartite window in segmental-arched panel with floral carving above glazing to ground floor; single window above; incised design to both floors to outer left. E ELEVATION: modern extension to ground; single windows to outer left and right at 1st floor above.

Modern replacement windows with hopper lower sashes. Grey slate piended roof; shouldered, coped and corniced wallhead stacks.

Statement of Interest

The floral carving to this building is virtually identical to that at

2 and 4 Priestfield Road and 1 Priestfield Road North.
