Description

Late 19th century. Semi-detached, symmetrical pair of 2-storey, 3-bay picturesque villas built on ridge. Squared and snecked rubble with polished ashlar dressings; raised and lugged window margins, raised quoins. House to E stonecleaned. Timber sash and case windows with plate glass, some 4-pane glazing. Bracketed eaves with timber barge-boards and kingpost detail to gabled dormerheads, grey slates, corniced ashlar stacks with full complement of octagonal cans. Later rooflights front and rear, No 3 has modern box dormer to N.

N (FRONT) ELEVATION: 2 outer bays of each house broad advanced and gabled, doors to penultimate gabled bays with moulded, consoled doorpiece with round-arched pediment and sun-ray motif to tympanum, single window above. Outer bays with ashlar canted bay at ground floor with stone balustrade to 1st floor bipartite. 2 middle bays with bipartites at ground, single windows above breaking eaves in gabled dormerhead.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: to Mount Vernon Road. Each house with 2-storey advanced gabled bays and a single storey gabled wing projecting at right angles, 2 middle bays with gabled dormerheads breaking eaves.

INTERIOR: not seen (1995).

BOUNDARY WALLS: low ashlar coped rubble wall to front, higher at rear with vehicular gates.
