Description

Circa 1865. 2-storey, 3-bay L-plan villa. Squared and coursed stugged ashlar with polished ashlar dressings to front elevation, squared rubble with stugged ashlar margins to sides and rear. Timber sash and case windows with 6-pane glazing to front, 12-pane glazing pattern to sides and rear. Ashlar coped skews and skewputts, grey slates and corniced ashlar stacks.

N (FRONT) ELEVATION: steps to central door, recessed 4-panelled door with 2-pane letterbox fanlight over, consoled doorpiece above, window at 1st floor. Gabled bays flanking, each with canted, flat-roofed bay projecting through 2 floors, base course, cill course at 1st floor.

E ELEVATION: to garden. Gable end to right with window and later door opening at ground floor, window to 1st floor. Slightly lower service wing with 2 windows to each floor.

S ELEVATION: service court at rear with lean-to slated outhouse and porch over backdoor. Stone built former carriage house adjoining garden walls to S.

INTERIOR: part seen; 2 leaf, half-glazed inner hall door, cantilevered stone stair beyond with cast-iron balusters.

GATEPIERS AND GARDEN WALLS: 2 pairs of pyramidal capped ashlar gatepiers to Kirk Brae. Ashlar coped rubble garden walls.

GREENHOUSE: to NW of house, small cast-iron octagonal greenhouse with finials and coloured glass panels, contemporary with main house.
