Description

Later 19th century, post 1865. 2-storey, 3-bay, gabled villa. Whinstone with sandstone margins and dressings, chamfered reveals; base course; stugged quoins; projecting eaves, exposed rafters, decorative bargeboards.

E (MAIN) ELEVATION: broad slightly advanced gable to outer left; full-height canted bay with modillion cornice, slate roof. Door to right, 2-leaf with timber 2-pane fanlight; narrow tripartite window at ground to outer right, round-headed window with gable breaking eaves above. Harled gables with window to outer right and left of N and S elevations.

4-pane plate glass sash and case windows; grey slate roof, lead flashings, decorative bargeboards; sandstone wallhead stack, octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1993.

BOUNDARY WALL AND GATEPIERS: whinstone wall with harl pointing, quartz pebble coping, wall concave towards gatepiers. Rusticated gatepiers, pyramidal caps; decorative cast-iron gates, star and arcade motifs.

Statement of Interest

Ashcraig is not shown on the 1st edition map, and belongs to the later feuing of land in the Cove and Kilcreggan area. The style is in keeping with the villas along Rosneath Road.
