Description

Mid 19th century. Single storey and attic, symmetrical cottage villa, rectangular-plan. Sandstone ashlar with moulded margins and dressings; harled side and rear elevations. Base course; slightly projecting eaves.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 3 bays. Door at centre, wooden round-headed canopy on consoles, plate-glass fanlight, panelled door, modern vestibule door; segmental-headed, eyelet dormer above. Flanking canted bays at ground floor, decorative cast-iron parapet/window guard; gabled attic storey breaking eaves; round-headed windows, impost band, channelled voussoirs in pointed arch panel with keystone.

uPVC windows. Grey slate roof with lead flashings; squat corniced stacks with tall battered, corniced cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1993.

BOUNDARY WALL: whinstone wall with harl pointing, boulder coping.

Roscombe is one of a number of similar cottage villas along the Rosneath Road. A house named as Woodend Cottage, and on the same site, is shown on the 1st edition map.
