Description

Probably late 18th century. Tall stone weir across River Tyne, stepped profile, fish ladder to N shore.

Statement of Interest

Martine states that this was reputed to be the site of Newmills, one of Scotland?s first significant industrial enterprises, known as the "Scottish Cloth Manufactory", which operated between 1681 and 1712. The current structure was constructed, or reconstructed, as a landscape feature by the Earl of Wemyss.
