Description

Dated 1863. 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular-plan gabled house; gothick detailing. Stugged squared and snecked sandstone rubble, polished margins and dressings; advanced bracketed eaves. Pointed arch windows, originally with gothick glazing.

NE (MAIN) ELEVATION: advanced gabled bay to outer right; bipartite windows at ground, pointed-arch bipartites at 1st floor. Small gabled off-set porch in re-entrant angle to right; modern door; Y-tracery pointed-arch fanlight; plaque above inscribed "Built by Sir James Colquhoun Bart Lord Lieut. of Dumbarton, 1863". Gabled bay to right, bipartite at ground, single pointed arch, traceried window at 1st floor.

S ELEVATION: broad gabled bay to outer right; bipartite at ground, broad pointed arch, traceried window at 1st floor. Modern wooden and glass gabled porch to left.

Plate glass and Y-traceried, timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slate roof, lead flashings; coped ashlar ridge stacks, octagonal cans.

Statement of Interest

The house is one of a number of estate farms built by Sir James Colquhoun in the 1860s. The steadings have been altered.
