Description

Early 19th century with later alterations. Classical screen wall fronting rectangular-plan coach house block. Ashlar faced; smooth harled elevations with sandstone margins.

S (MAIN) ELEVATION: broad Wyatt-window at centre, flanked by paired Doric pilasters, supporting frieze and blocking course; base course.

E ELEVATION: 2-storey, 7-bay ; 2 outer left bays with gabled lean-to shelter at ground; window directly under eaves at 1st floor. 5 bays to right, most windows barred at ground, smaller windows at upper floor.

W ELEVATION: 7-bay. Later door at centre, flanking smaller door; round-arched cart-opening at penultimate right, now partly infilled, boarded 2-leaf door. Windows symmetrically disposed at 1st floor, those to outer right larger.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: pair of piend-roofed bays; broad door in bay to left, at left of centre; centre broad hoist door. Right bay with narrow door to right, broad hoist door at centre above.

Large classical window with blackened glass; boarded and barred windows; Graded grey slate roof, cast-iron flashings; tall coped wallhead chimney on W elevation; low corniced ridge stack with circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

Statement of Interest

The coach house and stables are shown on the 1st edition map. They were formerly listed as The Byre. The buildings are earmarked for renovation and conversion. The stabling area to the NE had delicate plasterwork and cast-iron stalls.
