Description

A W Macnaughtan, circa 1891. 2-storey and attic, 4-bay, rectangular lodge, with attached rectangular-plan M-roofed stables and T-plan maintenance block. Red squared and snecked tooled sandstone; stugged and polished ashlar surrounds. Long and short window surrounds.

S (MAIN) ELEVATION: 4-bay. Bipartite mullioned window at ground in advanced crowstepped gabled bay to right; single window with hoodmould at 1st floor; single window at attic. Single window at ground in canted corner to outer right. 3-light oriel window at 1st floor in recessed

3 bay section to left; castellated parapet; gabled dormer at attic. Flanking single windows at ground. Battered base course.

E (ENTRANCE ELEVATION): single step to roll-moulded pedimented doorway at centre; pediment broken by thistle motif. Single window at ground to right. Single window at ground in canted angle to outer left. Pepperpot turret bartizan tower to canted angle at outer right; blind single window within.

E ELEVATION (STABLE BLOCK ENTRANCE): 2-leaf painted timber doors at ground; segmental carriage arch with crenellated parapet; voussoirs; plaque.

E ELEVATION (MAINTENANCE YARD): advanced crowstepped gable at centre; door and fanlight at first. Flanking recessed bays; single timber door with fanlight at outer right.

Timber sash and case windows with 6- and 9- pane glazing to upper sashes. Grey slate piended roof; timber and glass cupola to stable block; corniced wallhead and apex stacks with moulded circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: tongue and groove panelling in ground floor room of West Lodge. White ceramic brick blocks to interior of stables.

Currently in use as offices and storage/maintenance site.
