Description

Mid to later 19th century. Symmetrical single storey with attic, 3-bay gabled house with advanced tripartite windows flanking entrance at ground. Stugged squared and snecked yellow sandstone; polished sandstone dressings. Raised base course; corbelled, corniced ground floor windows; hoodmoulded four-centred arched attic windows; decorative timber bargeboards. Stop-chamfered surrounds to ground floor openings; stone mullions; chamfered cills; cast-iron columnar porch. Squared and snecked tooled rubble sandstone at sides.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2-leaf timber panelled door centred at ground; plate-glass fanlight; cast-iron porch to front comprising flanking cushion-capital columns, scalloped pendentives, foliate stencilled frieze; small triangular attic window above. Tripartite windows at ground in advanced bays to outer left and right; tripartite, four-centred arched windows aligned beneath apex; decorative cast-iron balustrades to front.

2-pane timber sash and case windows at ground; plate-glass timber attic casements. Decorative cast-iron rainwater goods; graded grey slate roof; coped apex stacks to N and S; octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1996.

BOUNDARY WALL: squared and snecked tooled rubble sandstone wall to front; replacement cast-iron gates.

Statement of Interest

A symmetrical villa, notable for its columnar porch, cast-iron balustrading, fretted bargeboards, 2-pane timber sash and case windows and 2-leaf timber panelled door.
